What motivated you to walk the Virtual Camino? How has this worked for you? Did the COVID outbreak have an impact on your commitment?

I did the actual Camino in 2016 after watching the movie “The Way” and fell in love with the Walk! I had done the “1000 Mile Walk to the Gulf” with my wife in 2006. This is the walk that John Muir, the famous Naturalist did in 1867 in America, we re-walked it in 2006. I did another company’s virtual Camino walk during the 2020 and then found yours, which I am enjoying more. We are making plans to hopefully do the actual Camino again in 2022, God be willing.

When did you start using the Camino for Good app? How many miles do you average in a day?

Jan. 19, 2021 I started the Camino for Good. I am doing it now…… slowly. We are in the middle of winter and lots of snow and ice, so averaging about 3-4 miles a day. Hopefully more when weather changes.

What are some other challenges you face while walking?

I am almost 75 years of age and a number of body parts are not working as well as they did in the past!

What has walking done for you spiritually? Mentally? Physically?

Spiritually – kept me sane during the Covid outbreak and helped calm me down mentally. If I continue to walk, I will be able to continue to walk.

What is most enjoyable about the Camino for Good experience?

To help out the albergues, to view the country side-again, to hear other pellegrinos tell their stories and the wish to do it again-soon!

Feel free to share anything else!

I speak very little Spanish, so my wife and our daughter sent me in to a restaurant to get an ash tray for their cigars, I thought I did very well. The waitress brought out an ice cream cone with Ice cream upside down in a dish. Guess I need to practice my Spanish!

Thank you to Wil for sharing your story with the Camino for Good community. You're an inspiration to us all! Buen Camino
