Casa Susi has had it tough. Hit by the pandemic, this much beloved albergue in Trabadelo in Castilla y Leon along the Camino Frances route were facing extensive structural problems that, if not for the support of many people, would have seen them close forever. In 2020, Camino for Good committed to helping albergues hurt by the pandemic. There were none so worthy of support than Casa Susi and we were able to help out a little bit.
Casa Susi has often been described by pilgrims as one of the last embodiments of true Camino hospitality.
Mainly due to the efforts of one of our virtual pilgrims Peter Albigaard from Australia in setting up and tirelessly supporting a GoFundMe campaign to support the costs of repair of their roof, Fermin and Susi have been able to open their doors to pilgrims once again.
As anybody who has done renovation work knows, there is always hidden things need doing that weren’t initially budgeted for and this month, with your support, Camino for Good was able to help out with additional relief funds of $3000 USD.
Great to see that the albergues have come through the pandemic and are now thriving again. We are so proud of all the Camino for Good virtual pilgrims to have played such an important role.
