Albergue El Paso is an albergue owned by Lalo Alvarez in Vega de Valcarce, located in the beautiful mountains of Northern Spain. Due to the pandemic, they were forced to close for most of 2020 and all of 2021 so far. They are hoping to be able to open back up by May, but it is doubtful.

Lalo wrote to us asking for help to pay their “hospitalera” (worker) who has stayed with the hostel even though they could not pay her for a year. In addition, Lalo needed money for food, heating and general expenses.

It was a simple message, but one we hear often. Any help would be greatly appreciated as things are not good here, is the general theme of the requests we receive.

Thanks to our virtual pilgrims who are enjoying exploring the Camino Frances virtually on our app, we were able to help Lalo.

This is what Lalo wrote to us after receiving the good news!

“I have no words to thank your help.

I’m writing and I don’t stop crying to know that we aren’t going to close this year.

Although you aren’t visible, we’ll communicate to the pilgrims that thanks to people like you our albergue is going to stay open to give shelter to all the pilgrims.

A big hug for you and your team.

Lalo (is my nickname, my name is Eladio) Albergue EL PASO”

Another albergue helped and now will be sure to be open when we all finally get to walk a Camino again! Don’t know about you, but that cant come soon enough for us.
